I'm sorry to hear that majority of your friend's experience was in the Skilled Nursing facility. During my second and third semester at the Fremont Campus, we were rotated to different acute hospitals such as San Ramon Regional Hospital were we got assigned to different departments such as L&D, PACU, OR, ED, Telemetry, etc. Some of my peers got lucky enough to watch someone (w/ consent) give live birth. I wasn't very fortunate because my pt wasn't fully dialated before we had to go home. We also had a couple of day's experience at Mill's Peninsula were we had our Psych rotation (Adolescent, Adult, Chemical Dependency). Then, we had our Pediatrics done at a Sub-Acute setting were 90% of the clients had trachs and GTs. Of course we did SKilled Nursing during first semester, but majority of our Skilled Nursing was done at VA Hospital after that.

A friend of mind just finished the LVN program in Santa Clara. All of her clinical work was done in Skilled Nursing facilities or very similar. She had no acute care experience at all. Pediatrics was in a nursing home day care program. The maternity portion was watching videos.

We have placed many of our students from all of our programs in hospital sites including the aforementioned hospitals. Our first cohort from our LVN to RN students just recently graduated. And most of our students have many choices to work as a RN.
